An open-label, phase 2, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized, parallel-group study, conducted in patients with erectile dysfunction treated with 100 mg of sildenafil citrate, is presented. The study included 30 male subjects with a mean age of 60 and a body mass index (BMI) of 45.1 kg/m2, who had a mean follow-up of 5.6 years. The primary endpoint was change from baseline in the sildenafil citrate plasma concentration vs placebo on day 2 and day 6 (the first day of sildenafil citrate treatment), and on day 3 of sildenafil citrate treatment. Safety and tolerability were evaluated.
The study population consisted of 36 patients who received sildenafil citrate at doses of 50, 100 and 150 mg. The study began on day 3 of sildenafil citrate treatment and continued until week 4 (week 5 of sildenafil citrate treatment).
